INDUSTRY UPDATE: SHIPPING CRISIS
The UK is facing a potential shortage of goods at Christmas due congestion at some of the UK’s largest ports. This has been partially caused by the lack of HGV drivers in the UK, leaving containers at the port for longer than usual. At Felixstowe, the UK’s largest container port, labour shortages have exacerbated the problem.
In addition, this has been coupled with an increased demand in the market following recovery from the Covid-19 crash1. It is predicted that the current shipping crisis will endure for several months, with continued disruption to the global supply chain2.
