INDUSTRY UPDATE: CHANGES TO EU WASTE SHIPMENT REGULATIONS

The European Union announced planned variations to the current EU waste shipment regulations. Although these will not be directly assimilated into UK law, they will be applicable in Northern Ireland. It is likely that these planned changes will be reflected in our system, even if slightly modified from the EU proposals.

There are several key amendments including the restriction of exports to non-OECD countries, proof of ability to treat waste in an environmentally sound manner and a switch to digital records, amongst others. Only time will tell how these changes will impact the UK RDF industry.
